It seems we will be exploring the most significant parts of the town. Although the sights here in Provins aren’t really as well known as the ones in other areas like Paris, they are important enough to be listed as part of UNESCO’s World Heritage site list. I never really heard of Provins until I planned for this trip. I think I made the right choice to include this place in the itinerary. The town is small, charming and yet not crowded. I think I liked that the best. The next spot to visit was the Caesar’s Tower. It is not really difficult to miss this structure as this was probably the structure that I saw all the way from the railway station. As you can imagine this structure functioned as a watch tower and obviously it works since I can see it from the railway station.
I must say that I was very impressed with the design of the Caesar’s Tower. It had the hallmarks of European castle all over it. It was build on a small elevation in the town and probably the highest point in the town. The tower’s footprint isn’t really very big considering its importance. This is said to be the symbol of the power of the counts of Champagne, for whom the fairs here are named. It has for small and round towers which surround the central and taller tower. The are small windows which allow lookouts to see outside as well as to all defenders to shoot, I suppose. This is a very attractive structure and it is in very good condition.
