I was liking the very charming town of Provins. It is a well preserved medieval town and it looks like that much of the town has remained the same. This is probably why it was named to the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites, which is the reason why I was here in the first place. It was built on the success of the Champagne Fairs that this town because known far and wide. These days, it is near enough to Paris that it was worth getting away from the big city for a while. The pace of life here in Provins seems to be much, much slower. There are no shopping centers here and I might guess the a lot of people might even grow their own food here. However, the newer part of the town has more amenities including fast food restaurants. What can be more fast food than McDonald’s! However, it is still nothing like the usual scene you would see in very built up cities.
It would have been nice to see cobbled streets here but a lot of these streets have been paved. You could probably still see them in certain parts of the town though. The houses here in the town are mostly low rise ones, you would probably be hard pressed to find a place which is three stories high. It it nice how much of the town has been preserved. And I like it even more that there wasn’t a deluge of tourists here. Fortunately, Paris is a very, very strong tourist magnet and so irresistible most people would probably just give this small town a pass.
