I was a bit dismayed when I found out that we were going to watch at performance here in Provins. The show La Légende des Chevaliers has touristy written all over it but my companions seems to be very keen to watch. The gates were finally open at the performance area and we hurried inside. We were surprised to see that there were already a lot of people inside looking at what was on display. There were horses and people in medieval costumes. It does feel like you have been transported back in time and I thought it was interesting to see this. As for the performance, we were surprised to see that there was a large seating area for visitors to watch the performance. We were even more surprised to see that the seats were already filled up. We were wondering where all the people came from.
Majority of the viewers were kids. It seems like this was some sort of field trip for the children to get to know the culture more. The show was surprisingly entertaining. It was like those fairy tales which you read in books with good guys in the knights or chevalier and the princess, on the other end there is the enemy which looked more like orcs but they really performed well. They not only acted out the story but they also performed tricks usually on horseback, such as standing on the horse’s back, hanging off to one side of the horse and back, throwing spears at a target and the like. What I was most amused about it the reaction of the people to the main characters of the story. The kids where wildly cheering on the knight and the princess. And were relentlessly booing the enemy. Because of all these, I though the performance wasn’t that bad after all. The show was all in French, but I don’t think you need a translator to know what was going on. They probably told us the relation of the chevalier and Provins, but I never found out.
