Gates of Provins Medieval Town

Looking Through the Gates of Provins

We finally reached the Provins Tourism Information Center, although the staff of the center were very helpful, it wasn’t the tourism information center that I was expecting. We basically bought stuff and asked the cashier for information, pretty strange if you asked me. Anyway, we have a better idea of the town after we passed through the entire place in our effort to reach the center. Now, we first need to head back where we came from. This part of the town looks more “medieval” than the one we entered from. In fact, there is a city gate and matching city walls here.

The city gates of Provins wasn’t really much to look at. It is a two story structure covered in bricks. The entire structure had an earthy color which gives it that old appearance. There is actually a deep trench which surrounds the town. I wasn’t sure if this used to be a moat but there was no water at the moment. It would have made sense if it was a moat. Then again, even if there was no water in the trench, it made the walls of the town so much higher anyway, providing it some protection. It seems that the local fire brigade use the walls for practice as well. I don’t think there is a very tall structure in this area and this seems to be the perfect place to practice.
