I was quite excited to be at the Gare de l’Est railway station in Paris. It is a major railway station and it also connects to metro lines 4, 5 and 7. The railway station is a very traditional railway station design complete with transparent roof. I have imaginations that European railway stations would look like this and they really did. You need to purchase the tickets here at the railway station as it didn’t seem to be possible to buy them online when we visited. There were numerous kiosks so it was easy enough. There were seats at the station and we used someone else’s wifi while waiting for our trains.
There were a number of trains parked at the station. There were old style trains which are operated by SNCF which is a big railway company here in France. They also have a few sleek high speed trains here. It was exciting to these kinds of trains and I was hoping that we would be taking the high speed ones. I thought it was unlikely though since there will be numerous stops along the way to our destination. It doesn’t make sense to use a high speed train for these types of trips.
