I was never into river tours whenever I am in a foreign country. Unless the place is an island, there will always be a way to walk to that place of interest and explore. For me, looking at beautiful places from the river it too far away. I think I have the same feeling for the Tour of the River Seine. We are on a large tourist ferry along the river Seine and the boat was moving at the leisurely pace. It passes by numerous beautiful and important buildings that were built along the river banks over the years. I’m sure there was a former palace here somewhere given how beautiful these places are.
The ferry actually has a commentary, but you need to be on the lower deck to hear it properly. But being on the lower deck sort of defeats the purpose of taking the river tour in the first place. The upper deck is so much better that there are only a handful of people in the lower deck, most of them elderly folk who probably couldn’t climb up or get seasick easily. As a result of the difficult to hear commentary, I could hardly comprehend what exactly I was seeing. The buildings and bridges were beautiful but I didn’t even know their names or their purpose. Maybe the river tour company should provide audio guides together with the river tour. I think that would add more value to the tour.
