If the Grand Trianon was like the home away from home in the Palace of Versailles, then the Petit Trianon is the home away from home in the Grand Trianon. The Grand Trianon is located in a garden in the northwestern corner of the gardens of Versailles. The Petit Trianon was built during the reign of Louis XV and for the sole use of the Queen Marie-Antoinette. Remember how the king had the Grand Trianon build to get away from the stresses of kingly life. Here at the Petit Trianon the Queen would stay away from the stresses of being a queen. I think it is interesting to see royal figures behave this way. I would have thought that they would have wanted the life of a queen. After all, don’t little girls dream of being a princess or a queen at one time or another?
The Petit Trianon is a stone’s throw away from the Grand Trianon. It is in the southeastern corner of what the Grand Trianon is. As you might expect, the Petit Trianon is indeed much smaller than the Grand Trianon. However, they did not spare anything when it comes to the interiors. True, it is no Palace of Versailles, but I think it matches up quite well with the Grand Trianon when it comes to design. It is smaller, so that makes things much more manageable to explore. I’m sure if the queen was living by herself it would be much better to have a smaller place.
