We decided not to go the whole length of the Grand Canal. It seems a bit pointless to do so since it was so long and there wasn’t much interesting stuff at the very end anyway. The king probably never came to this part of the garden anyway. He did however go to another part of the garden. The Grand Trianon is where the king, amusingly enough, retreats from his palace to the less formal setting of the Grand Trianon. It is amusing to see a retreat built into such a large place. You would think it strange that the place was so large that they built a vacation area in it as well.
The way to the Grand Trianon is to turn right at the Grand Canal, most people would be making their way into this place anyway, so it should not be that difficult to find. You still need to go through the gardens and you get to admire the neatly trimmed trees here. It is a nice walk to the Grand Trianon as it is well shaded. I doubt that the king actually walked as it is still some distance away. Even tourists here were already taking the tourist train to get to this part of the garden. Just be careful not to get run over by them.
