The gardens at the Palace of Versailles don’t seem to end. It is very easy to underestimate this place since one would think that “it can’t possibly be that large”. After all, if the king would be walking in these parts he can’t possibly walk all the way to end. I don’t think he would even make it to the Bassin d’Apollo without the help of a carriage. True enough the avenues of the garden are wide enough to handle these kinds of transportation, but they are too long for people to explore in a single day. Fortunately, most of the interesting stuff in the garden was off to one side of palace grounds. It would be maddening if things were still all over the place as well. Perhaps the staff had horses on standby just in case they need to rush off to another part of the palace grounds.
One of the largest features of the Gardens of Versailles is the Grand Canal. As you might suspect, this is a very long channel dug up for the garden. It is a massive structure and you can only best appreciate it from above. The canal is in the shape of a cross. It is so large that you can hardly see the end of the canal. Before we attempt to approach the canal we took a little breather while admiring the massive canal. It was a very beautiful day and it is a good change from the cold weather which I have been exposed to lately. I never thought I would miss the warm weather that much. Here I get to experience spring and everything that comes with it.
