Park Güell is one of the major works of Catalonian architect Antoni Gaudí. This park is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site filed under Works of Antoni Gaudí. It was a surprisingly long climb up to the top of this hill, called El Carmel, where the park was built. This is supposed to be a public park, however it seems that parts of the park were slowly being turned into a ticket only park. Owing to the popularity of Gaudí’s works, I am not surprised the government is trying to make money off this. From what I am seeing, this place seems to be quite popular as well. I was having second thoughts about this place since it didn’t seem to be well maintained, as it turns out only the free section wasn’t exactly in the best of shape.
Following the arrows, we finally arrived at Park Güell itself. The park is basically a collection of Gaudí’s works here as it is largely designed by him. There is a large barren field here and I was wondering what that was. I think it used to be a grassy field but countless tourists have trampled the grass to death. Maybe they should have put a fence around it. This field is apparently the roof of one of Gaudí’s creations. The queue to enter the park itself was long and we were content to just walk around the park. After all, they can’t really cover up these buildings.
