We came upon this narrow alley way which was attractive in its own right but we somehow stumbled into a building which seem to have something to show visitors. It was already included in our ticket so we didn’t really need to pay anything. The Casa Canals is not as ancient as the Romans ruins which dot the city of Tarragona but it is nevertheless significant as it is one of the best preserved structures of its kind in the city. As the name implies, the Casa Canals is the house of the family of Canals. Now, the name itself doesn’t sound very Spanish but that is what it is. It is unclear when the current building was actually built. There was a previous building located here but was destroyed.
The Casa Canals were the owners of the house by the 1800s and have continuously renovated the place to a very high standard. So good it was that the king of Spain would be staying here when he visits. It seems that Tarragona never had a properly Spanish alcazar here. Casa Canals though modest in size was impressive inside and could rival any castle out there. Upon entry into the ballroom, visitors will be amazed at the beauty of the room. Beautiful mirrors adorn the room as well as chandeliers dangle from the ceiling. It feels more like a mansion rather than a castle. Other parts of the mansion where available for viewing as well. The bedrooms were also interesting. This place isn’t really very big but it is worthwhile to drop by here to see how the upper class of Tarragona lived at that time.
