Beautiful Sanctuary at the Santa Maria de Montserrat Basilica
Arguably, the main draw of Montserrat is the Santa Maria de Montserrat Basilica. What is in here that is so important? Well, it turns out, there is a highly venerated statue of the Virgin of Montserrat. They also call it the Black Madonna. The Virgin of Montserrat is also Catalonia’s patron saint. The basilica houses the image of the Black Madonna and it is after her that the church was named. We were getting closer to the sanctuary and it seem people are also getting impatient. While we weren’t looking and elderly lady suddenly appeared behind us.

No, no, she was very real, at least, I think she was. We exchanged glances with the original person behind us and they just shrugged their shoulders. It seems like she was trying to edge her way faster into the sanctuary. She was elderly which is why we just let her have her way. The people in front of us weren’t so “courteous” and they gently told her not to cut through the queue. In the end, she still got here way and slowly moved up the queue. I don’t think it would have mattered much in the end since we have already waited so long for that.
