One of my friends has this rather amusing habit of visiting each an every single tourism information center we been to. It was all in an effort to learn more about how to explore and how to best use our limited time here in Montserrat. If it were just me, I would have just headed straight to where the people are. While there are a lot of things to see here at Montserrat. The place is compact enough to know that if you head in one direction, you would be doing the hiking part. If you head off to another direction, you would be going to the monastery. It kind of ruins the fun of exploring a place if you know exactly what to expect. Which is probably why I don’t plan my trips in detail anymore. The lady at the information counter gave us some tips on where to go, and it seems most people go here to see the Black Madonna. So Black Madonna it is.
At one end of the plaza you have a choice of going to the hiking trail or heading back towards the monastery to explore the old buildings there. It is a pity that my friends weren’t very avid hikers. While, I’m not exactly the fittest person in the world, I would have relished the experience of hiking in such a beautiful setting. We needed to head back to the main building complex where we can start exploration of the treasures of Montserrat.
