One of the signature architectural styles here in Barcelona is the Gothic style. It is so prevalent that there is an entire quarter where it seems to be very concentrated. We were wandering in the Las Ramblas area and off to the side streets which known as the Barri Gotic or Gothic Quarter. As you might expect, a lot of the buildings in this area are Gothic in style. I think Gothic style is very charming and old world. It reminds me of the elegance and grandeur of old Europe. Unfortunately, making such grand designs these days is very time consuming and expensive. What we can do now it to help preserve what is left here.
The Plaza de San Jaime is part of the Gothic Quarter and we already passed by presidential palace and city hall both of which are Gothic in design. We also happened to walk along one particularly well known street in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, the Carrer del Bisbe Irurita. It seemed to be one of the more important landmarks of the Gothic Quarter. There was an overhead bridge which connected two buildings. The bridge was Gothic in design and it looks like is came out of a church. You could imaging someone like Batman perching on top of the bridge and no one would be surprised.
