Beautiful Day at the Las Ramblas in Barcelona

With the Sagrada Familia not an option right now, our schedule in Barcelona was in disarray. There weren’t any tickets to be had at the basilica as we would probably need to purchase them online or come back another day. We needed to quickly regroup and figure out what to do next. Barcelona as a lot of interesting places to see, so it should be quite easy to come up with something. Not surprisingly, the decision was made to just go to the main shopping street of Barcelona – Las Ramblas. The Las Ramblas area is one of the busiest areas of the city. It is also home to the Gothic quarter where lost of Gothic designed buildings stand but more on that later.

The Las Ramblas was busier than I expected. The street itself is pedestrianized and there were a lot of shops on both sides of the street. Most of the seemed to higher end shops. We passed by a lot of interesting buildings including cinemas and opera houses. I have never seen an opera house before as operas weren’t a big thing where I came from. The street itself had small cafe’s where you can have snacks or coffee. It seems to be a nice place to just hang out and people watch. As you might expect, lots of people draw lots of pickpockets. This place is known to be a pickpocket’s haven so it pays to watch your things.
