The El Escorial bus station wasn’t really that far from the main monastery site. It did however give me an idea of what was in the area. There were a few restaurants and bars in the area and it seems to be a nice place to hang out. But more on that later, I want to go see the monastery. El Escorial is a massive building and it is difficult to miss such a large building in this area. It was also used as a palace at certain points in time. While I was admiring the massive building, my eyes were drawn towards a line of people outside the building. It was actually a queue. The queue was long and it reached all the way to the end of the building. If you saw how large the building was, it would also think that the queue was long.
I had no choice but to follow the queue. The sky was very clear that afternoon and it was hot. I heaved a sigh of relief when we reached the part where the building was blocking the sunlight. I envy the folk who have companions to queue for them. It would have been nice to take some photos first while someone else is queuing up for you. Then you can take turns after that. I have not heard of El Escorial and I would be interested to find out what is in here that made it a UNESCO World Heritage site.
