The next room in the Alcazar of Segovia was the throne room. As any self respecting castle in the world, the Alcazar of Segovia also has its own throne room. Curiously, it is put after the dining hall. Or perhaps the dining hall was put beside the throne room. Anyway, there were two seats on an elevated platform. The chairs didn’t look particularly comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. The emblem was emblazoned behind the thrones and a light shone on it for greater effect. The light was obviously something that was added much much later for tourism purposes.
The most eye catching thing about this room was not the thrones but the ceiling. The ceiling is a magnificent piece of artwork. It reminds me of Islamic art and I won’t be surprised to know that this was an original from the time when the Alcazar of Segovia was a Moorish fort. This could have been an important room that time as well which would account for this beautiful interior. There were some small stained glass windows to let some light in. The Alcazar de Segovia may have been primarily a fort but it has still managed to house something a beautiful as this.
