Closer Look at the Alcazar de Segovia

Pointy Castle Towers of the Alcazar de Segovia

I was very impressed with the beauty of the Alcazar de Segovia. This is my first encounter with a traditional looking European castle. I always had this image of European castles in my mind. I guess you can blame Disney for that. And that is not a coincidence. The Alcazar de Segovia happens to be one of the inspirations for the Cinderella castle in Disneyland. The Alcazar de Segovia happens to be the oldest one built. Other inspirations are scattered across Europe, hopefully I would be able to visit them eventually. One of the more prominent features of the alcazar is are the towers and these are slightly later additions to the castle.

The main facade of the castle is a tall and imposing building. It has a surprisingly low number of windows. If you think about it, it actually makes sense since this building will tend to get attacked quite a lot. Windows are not a luxury the residents of the castle can afford. The side of the castle where the entrance is it not as picturesque as the other side, unfortunately, I don’t know of any way to see the castle from the other side apart from walking beyond the walls of the city which would take a while. Anyway, it is time to finally explore this fairy tale castle.
