The centerpiece of any cathedral or church is usually that altar. The cathedral of Segovia, isn’t as jawdroppingly beautiful like the Cathedral of Toledo but this was still a nice place to visit. The gothic design of the church is still guaranteed to wow visitors. The layout of the cathedral is much like every other cathedral. The altar is at the center of the church and following traditional design it is fenced off from the rest of the church. I always found this a bit strange as nowadays, people are encouraged to be part of the church. Back then there was a feeling of entitlement by the members of the clergy and that they were superior to others. This is not the case now but the original design of the church remains.
Surprisingly, the altar of the Cathedral of Segovia is quite bare when compared to the rest of the cathedral. In fact, you could argue that some of the chapels here may be more beautiful than the altar itself. There is more light here though as the windows above let light in more compared to the rest of the church. There are no seats here for the congregation but more for the celebrants and the readers. Despite the fence, I was still able let the camera peek through the fence and take photos.
