It has been a pattern I’m seeing in these Spanish cathedrals. The interior of the church is dotted with numerous smaller chapels. These chapels are usually dedicated to saints or religious figures and depending on the value of the display, they may or may not be open to the public. I have been to several chapels which the public may not access. They are still visible to the public since they have iron fences guarding the chapels. I can only assume that this was done to protect the valuable art which is also on display here in the cathedral. It is not that far fetched to see a deranged individual vandalize or even destroy these works of art.
Speaking of which, the chapels have become virtual art galleries sometimes showcasing the design of the chapel sometimes featuring beautiful sculptures. Others would be decorated by numerous beautiful paintings. It is interesting to see this variation in the design of the chapels and it is nice to speculate on the reason for this beautiful variation. I can only speculate that it was because the chapels were done in various periods and that the requesting party preferred in in certain ways which were changing throughout the years.
