I was very glad that I seem to have the whole town to myself. It seems I have arrived very early in the day, way ahead of the tour groups. This was part of the plan to avoid the rush of people coming here. Now that I have had my breakfast, I can start exploring the Old Town of Segovia. It feels much like a smaller version of the Historic City of Toledo and it probably is, since Segovia wasn’t exactly the center of all that was Spain back then. Still large parts of it are in a good state of preservation starting with the first landmark I see after the aqueduct.
As you might expect, Segovia has an abundance of old buildings, most especially churches. The first church I encounter here is the Iglesia de San Millán or the Church of Saint Millán. I never heard of this saint and as I suspected, he is a local saint in Spain. Saint Aemilian lived during the Visigothic times of Spain and he founded a monastery. He is widely revered in Spain and this is one of the churches which are built in his name. The Church of Saint Millán in Segovia is also one of the oldest churches in the town.
