I did not continue on to the other side of the Puente de San Martin or the Bridge of Saint Martin as there didn’t seem to be anything interesting there. I was busy admiring the elegant bridge which crosses the Rio Tajo. This seems to be one of two old bridges which cross the river below. The bridge is quite high above the water as the other side of the bridge was also quite high. I have seen photos of these kind of bridges and I thought they were very beautiful. There are several lookout points on the bridge itself, not surprising as this bridge was also serving a defensive purpose.
The bridge also has a great viewpoint to look at the other side of the town. The river passes through below and it lends a gentle beauty to the scenery here. Despite being a very old city, there is still a lot of greenery here. The clear skies complete the picture. On the other side, you can see parts of the town, especially what appears to be a lookout post or a fort. The fort was elevated as you might expect so it makes for a good lookout post. The guards of the time might as well have been sight seeing as the scenery here can be quite beautiful.
