Much as I wanted to stay inside the Cathedral of Toledo and admire its magnificent interiors. I also need to see some other places which are well known in Toledo. I was a bit of a shock to step outside the Cathedral since it was quite dark inside. My eyes got used to the dark and it was bright and sunny outside. The windows of the cathedral were mostly high up, so you can’t really see how bright it was outside. The beautiful stained glass here can give you a clue though. It was then that I realized that I didn’t really see much of the outside of the cathedral until now. I passed through a side door in the two times which I entered so I didn’t really see the main door.
The main entrance was curiously closed. There was a huge gate in front the doors and no one can enter. It seems that the only proper way of entering the church is through the side entrances. I guess this was done so they can better control the flow of visitors in the church. If you have a large door, people can just sneak inside. I guess that is the price you pay if you have a popular cathedral and you are charging for it. The church has one bell tower and it is said to have replaced the minaret of the mosque which ones stood there. The spire is probably one of the tallest structures here in Toledo and can be seen from all over the city. It would have been a magnificent sight to see the church at night but I won’t be spending the night here.
