I have been to quite a few ancient cities. Most of them were in China though and they were quite attractive. They were also very crowded. Not surprising, since they were quite well known in the country since ancient times. With the advent of air travel, it makes it so much easier to go from one place to another. For people who do not like to plan their trips, it was better to join in groups, thus the dreaded tour group was formed. I was not surprised to see tour groups here in the Historic City of Toledo. Like its Chinese counterparts, it was also very well known for centuries. In fact, Toledo was the most important city back then until the rise of nearby Madrid.
With the arrival of tour groups, also comes the arrival of shopping in Toledo. The streets of Toledo were lined with shops and restaurants catering to these groups. The shops here focus primarily on “local” products. Naturally, they advertise the products on sale here as products of Toledo, or somewhere nearby. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen. I’m sure there are authentic ones here but since I am not really from this area, I can’t really tell which is which. I was quite surprised to see how many people there were here. I was somehow under the impression that it was not that popular here in Toledo that it won’t be so crowded. How wrong was I!
