If I were to describe my visit to the one of the most sacred places in Ireland, the Hill of Tara, that would be “underwhelming”. For all the build up and all the stories which our tour guide told us while we were still making our way here, the loftiness of the stories don’t seem to match the sights here. The top of the Hill of Tara feels more like an ill maintained golf course. There were numerous features such as concentric rings in certain parts of the hill top but this is not very obvious when you are on top of it. It is really best appreciated when you are flying over it, perhaps on a helicopter.
It was sometimes a challenge to navigate the undulating terrain, since the soil was wet and a bit muddy. It would not be too far fetched if someone really tripped and rolled down the hills here. At least our tour guide can’t say that she didn’t warn us. It was very windy on top as well, fortunately, I was quite well protected but it was still cold. I hurriedly went around the hill top to see what is there to see here. I think it is going to be a very short visit.
