It seems that our tour guide was right, it was cold here on top of the Hill of Tara, so cold we’ll probably die here, cue the evil laughter. At the entrance of the hill was a fence but beyond that, I can’t see any features other than an empty hill. This hill is considered the most sacred places in Ireland and it is home to the high king of Ireland. There are a lot of stories than come from this place that it is still interesting to research on these. I wasn’t expecting to be going hillwalking there at the Hill of Tara. Much of the hill here is empty save for the Church of Saint Patrick at the entrance. It is still a gentle walk up, however you might need to be very careful of some slippery portions, something which our tour guide warned us about, cue the evil laughter.
The walk up the hill of Tara wasn’t really that bad, since we were already quite high up. There rest of the trail will be up to us to complete. The hill of Tara isn’t really very high, as it is only 253 meters tall, but Ireland seems to be sufficiently flat enough in this area so that you can see most of Ireland from the highest point of the Hill of Tara. One needs to study the introduction to Tara at the entrance of the hill, since you won’t really get to see much when you arrive at the hill itself. A lot of the features of the hill are also best appreciated if there is a good light coming from the side, something which I don’t have. Even better still, if you have a helicopter you can see the structures which the introduction was talking about.
