I really had no idea that a exhibition center was there in the Newgrange Visitor Center. We first came here to the center to in what I thought was just a place to gather the visitors before we were herded off to the monument. First of all, we were shown a short video of the story of Newgrange, more specifically, how it relates to the sun. We were given a small astonomy review and although there was nothing really new here that I didn’t already know, it was still fun to watch these kinds of films. After the film showing, you then start to go to the monument via the walkway to where the visitor center tour buses were.
As it turned out, that was just part of the visitor center we got to visit. There was an impressive exhibit area which depicted how the people of the Neolithic Newgrange would have lived. It was quite interesting to see the contrasts in the buildings for the living and for the dead. Anyway, the exhibits themselves were great in putting what we just saw at the Newgrange Stone Age Passage Tomb in perspective. The visitor center exhibit area wasn’t very big and one get go around it in a few minutes but there are a lot of descriptions on the exhibits and it would be worthwhile to read them.
