Ever since I came to Ireland, I always had my eye at the UNESCO World Heritage sites of the island. There are three of them, two of them are a bit accessible to me, however the third one is a bit too far down south, I probably need to travel for a few days to get there. The one I will be visiting would be, conveniently, the one closest to Dublin. It might have been possible for me to drive all the way there from our town but it would have been tiring for me. Besides, I wasn’t even sure if there is a way for visitors to just show up in the center. Newgrange is about an hour away from Dublin. We were on a tour bus going there and our very knowledgeable guide, Mary Gibbons, would go on and on about the history of Newgrange.
I admit, that I find this places very fascinating. I didn’t even know about these places until I came to Ireland. All I know about this place was that it was very, very old and it was along the lines of Stonehenge in the United Kingdom. Along the way, Mary Gibbons would point out places of interest which way somehow related to Newgrange. By then I was already asleep since I needed to wake up a bit early to catch the bus to Newgrange. I also did some research, there seems to be a public bus that goes there but it not very convenient as I would have to wait at the center for the next bus which doesn’t come back until the afternoon. Newgrange, you might expect, seems to be in the middle of nowhere and there was just green, green, green all around. Seems like a perfect place to set up a UNESCO World Heritage site.
