Rooms of Dublin Castle

Grand Hallway at Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle is one of the most important places in Ireland politically. Despite its present looks, it didn’t used to look that way. As the name implies. There used to be a full blown castle back then and it was used by the English as the seat of government. Nowadays, much of the castle has been rebuilt and replaced by more modern structures. Although if you pay attention, you can still see the remnants of the old castle. We were passing through one of the more modern structures and it shows. These were mostly office buildings which was used by the English when they were still occupying Ireland. Now, these rooms are left open for public viewing. The real offices now are probably off limits to visitors.

The interiors of Dublin Castle were quite impressive. It was as if I entered a hotel lobby with all the furniture taken. When the castle was handed back to the Irish people, the English also took back the furniture with them. This was explained to us by our tour guide. You can also see some interesting features like fireplaces in each of the rooms. Probably a relic from the time when there was not piped in heating or electricity. It seems that the castle is very well maintained and care has been taken to keep the castle the way it was.
