So far I wasn’t really impressed with Merrion Park. The park itself was an ordinary park but with much less traffic compared to the other more well known park nearby. This can also be a blessing since you will enjoy the park more with less people. Although the wasn’t a lot of rubbish in the park, I have a feeling that it isn’t really regularly maintained. Despite being winter, most of the plants were still green, maybe I just didn’t know what to expect since this would be my first winter in a long, long while. There were some monuments along the park path. There were also more modest statues in the area.
Scattered throughout the park were a few statues of some famous people. One of which was Michael Collins, who played a huge part in the founding of the Irish state. Some of the statues here were a bit out of the way, so I couldn’t really tell who they were. I didn’t want to be walking on the grass itself as there was a path for walking in the first place. It was amusing to see a head peeking through the bushes only to find out that it was a statue. I wonder if they did that on purpose.
