The building itself of Trinity College didn’t seem that impressive, it is just a school after all and there are real students who come here, and I suspect Chinese students number quite a lot here as I have seen the previous day at Grafton Street. Trinity College is probably Ireland’s most prestigious educational institution. The popular name of Trinity College overshadows the more formal University of Dublin name. It has an even more impressive official name “College of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Queen Elizabeth near Dublin” and I totally understand why no one uses it. The Trinity College is also Ireland’s biggest and oldest university having been established in the year 1592 and it is still going strong.
It wasn’t the first university of Dublin, apparently there was another University of Ireland that was established in 1311 but it eventually closed shop. Trinity College now has a population of 16,000 students. Knowing this, I was thankful that it was a school holiday or else we would be getting in the way of the students as they make their way to school. I was surprised that the university grounds themselves are open to visitors. This was unlike some universities that I know which are quite strict with whoever goes in their premises.
