Lights at Grafton Street

Saints Stephen’s Green Shopping Center at Night

I was nice to be walking around in Grafton Street now that the rains have died down. The people are finally out and there is a lot of them. I was surprised to see a significant number of Asian people here, I presume most of them were Chinese, since I would hear a lot of Mandarin being spoken. I suspect a lot of them would be students at the nearby Trinity College, which is probably Ireland’s best known university. Interestingly, the “students” seem to be quite the shopper, as they would be toting bags from high end shops, I don’t understand how they can afford such things, perhaps they have rich parents. Anyway, they were also enjoying the night scene at Grafton Street, which by this time is already lit up.

The Christmas decorations at Grafton Street weren’t that special but I guess combining them with the beautiful buildings which line the famous street, it still makes for a nice scene. Some streets other than Grafton Street also have decorations, perhaps to try to lure away some of the shopping crowd. There are also other interesting streets here for shopping so I guess it is working. I think I like that the shopping isn’t concentrated in one street alone. I can imagine how bad it was at the depths of the financial crisis which gripped Ireland not too long ago. If you walk here, you would be forgiven to think that there was ever a financial crisis.
