As far as I can see, much of Dublin Castle is just a large square with government buildings around it. The buildings didn’t seem to be open to visitors, so I head out of the square. After passing through a large doorway, I was greeted again by another open square. This time it seemed to be slightly different. The building behind me is still the same old government building. Right in front of me was very modern building, of which purpose I do not know about. However, to the right was a most interesting sight. It was round stone tower which was quite wide. This screams castle any way you put it. I guess there was some part of Dublin Castle still here.
I quickly ran to the end of the square to the new buildings. There was some shelter here from the rain and it allows me to take some photos of the place in relative safety. As far as I can see, I can only see the tower as being the original part of the castle. While I do not know the history of Dublin Castle, it seems that much of the place has already been renovated and replaced by more “modern” buildings. It could have been for safety reasons that it was replace, however for some reason that particular tower was retained. I didn’t know where to go now, since it was still raining. I didn’t really want to take photos since I would get my camera wet. Maybe it is time to close shop for a while until the weather improves.
