I was very impressed seeing the Church of Saint Augustine and Saint John the Baptist more commonly known as John’s Lane Church. It is one of the more beautiful buildings here in Dublin and I was surprised that I only ran into it. It was so tall that when I walk up the hill from the River Liffey, I could immediately see the church. I guess that was the point after all. The exterior of the church is quite unlike the other churches which I have visited in Ireland. Most of them were beautiful in an old world kind of way, but they all tend to look alike. The design of John’s Lane Church is very different. It still uses the stone wall motif which is present in practically all the old church I have seen here, however, this one puts a little more effort into the design of the church. There were brown access on the church which highlight some important parts like the arches and the entrances of the building.
The entrance of the church is a delight to look at. The arches are carved with numerous angels as well as some columns which surround the heavy wooden door. The door seems to have come out of a period film and even the hinges were ornate. I wonder why don’t the build buildings like this anymore. The main entrance itself is also has an arch of angels but this one surrounds a beautiful carving of the Jesus Christ. There were two rather modern looking doors which let people in. I think the door was upgraded to help control the temperature inside.
