Going to John’s Lane Church

I finally decided to head south of the River Liffey. I have explored a good part of the river and it was much better than I expected. There were a lot of historical buildings both old and restored ones. I’m sure there are still other interesting buildings within the area, such as the Saint Michan’s Church and the Old Jameson Distillery both of which are also quite well known landmarks. I will leave those for a later visit, I’m sure this won’t be the last time I visit this city. For now, I will head south of the river where there seem to a lot of interesting places. As I was walking up the hill after crossing the river, was a rather prominent building, it was a church. This one didn’t seem to be in my list but I was surprised somehow run into it.

The church is the Church of Saint Augustine and Saint John the Baptist, no one calls it that name since it is too long, here they call it John’s Lane Church owing to its location at the corner of John’s Lane. What is most striking about this church is the central tower which is quite high. Since it is located on an elevation the church tower looks even taller from far away. Imagine seeing that from the River Liffey and you will think that that is a very tall building. Considering how rather flat Dublin seems to be, this is one of the taller buildings I have seen here. A quick look at Google I find out that it really is the tallest building in Dublin. There isn’t a very long list of taller buildings before this church either.
