Donegal Castle is the latest place I would be visiting in the northwestern county of Donegal in Ireland. The county of Donegal is know for its wild scenery so I was surprised to see a few historical monuments here in the county. We drove down to the county town of Donegal to visit this historic town. It seems to be a much more pleasant town and their square seems to be a much livelier that others I have been to. Donegal Castle is at the center of the town just by the river. We paid our entrance fee to go in the castle. There are family prices and there are single person prices and they give you some literature to read when you go around the castle.
Donegal Castle is another modest castle here county Donegal. I have been to another castle here in Donegal and it was in Glenveagh National Park, aptly named Glenveagh Castle. Much like the Glenveagh Castle, Donegal Castle was quite simple as well. I guess I really should stop thinking of castle here in Ireland much like castles found in the movies or probably because this is the style they build their castles with. Most of the castle is still intact with the main building to the right open for visitors. It is surprisingly tall at five stories high, no doubt as it also doubles as a lookout tower. The three story building to the left is pretty much just a facade where there wasn’t much interior to see. It seems it is still in the process of restoration. I think that will take a while.
