I walked all the way from the walled city of Derry, past the Free Derry murals and now to Saint Eugene’s Cathedral. It looks much like the other churches I have seen in other parts of Ireland. My understanding is that this design is Neo-gothic, similar to Saint Eunan’s and Saint Columba’s Cathedral in Letterkenny. The other churches I have seen on the way from Dublin were also similar in structure. The church is punctuated by a tall bell tower, which makes it so prominent in Derry. Inside the cathedral is much like the other cathedrals. It has a very high roof and all the walls are lined with stained glass windows.

There were very few people here in the cathedral. As a result, it was extremely quiet in the cathedral. Sitting in the cathedral will certainly give you that break from the outside world and have a chance to communicate with God. I sat there for an hour, partly because it was warmer inside, compared to the cold weather outside the church. It really was nice to stay there if only to compose your thoughts.
