When we concluded our hillwalk at Horn Head, we head off to the nearby town of Dunfanaghy for some tea as well to allow me to catch my breath. I was amazed at the scenery of the area, and this doesn’t seem to be limited to Horn Head itself. My friends tell me that this town is often visited by tourists and the nice houses built near the sea are all holiday homes. Basically people come and rent the houses for a few days. This is supposedly rented by people from Northern Ireland. I guess the fame of this place spreads far. However, this bothered me. Whenever I think of holiday, I would think that people from here would go to warmer places or at least a place more comfortable than this. I guess, their idea of holidaying here is basically getting away from it all.
I guess that I have been exposed to too much mass market tourism that I didn’t even consider that people can holiday like this. Maybe I have gotten used to the scenery here that I already found it quite ordinary that I was surprised to learn that people would consider going on a holiday here of all places. My friend told me that in time I would come to understand why this is so. It seems that I still have to shake off the big city mindset that I still have with me. Who knows, I might start holidaying in remote places such as this. The town of Dunfanaghy is by the sea and most of the town is built around this inlet where you can get up close to the sea without getting carried out to the ocean. I think it is a nice place to visit, but I still have to change my mindset about what a holiday is.
