I was expecting a more grand structure when I was told that we would be visiting a castle at Glenveagh National Park. My dreams of seeing an impressive castle were dashed when I saw how small Glenveagh Castle really was. Actually, it would more apt to call this castle a mansion. The castle here is built with stone walls and it is used throughout the compound. It faces the lake at Glenveagh such that just walking outside would give you a great view of the surrounding area. No wonder the owner chased out the inhabitants of this estate. It is actually possible to go in the castle itself and do some exploration, but you would need to pay up for this.
There is a guided tour to explore the inside of the castle. I was told that although the interiors of the castle were nice, there were mostly recreations of a bygone era. At the most, it is a really, really nice house. However, I don’t think I would want to spend to just visit someone’s house. I like these kinds of places but I probably would give the tour a pass. The scenery outside is more than enough for me to take in seeing as there are various places you can visit within the castle grounds.
