Much has been written about the troubles which the city of Derry-Londonderry have gone through. The fact that it is a walled city points to the fact that there was a lot of action here. There has been a lot of friction in the latter decades of the 20th century until a peace agreement was signed not too long ago. It was then that the city of Derry-Londonderry had its chance to develop again. As a sign of the peace that has descended into this part of Ireland, a bridge was built, the Peace Bridge.
The aptly named Peace Bridge is a short walk from the Guildhall at Derry-Londonderry. You need to walk away from the walls and away from the square towards the river. The River Foyle flows through here and its breadth is more than modest. Across this river was build the Peace Bridge. I was actually expecting a more old world style bridge but that didn’t seem to be the case as this bridge was only built recently.
