It was a huge change of lifestyle for me here in Letterkenny in County Donegal in Ireland. Gone were the high paced life and convenience of Singapore and now replaced by the slow pace of Irish town life. Letterkenny is the largest town of County Donegal but it still feels much like a small town. Main Street is the shopping street of Letterkenny but it is rather uninteresting, though it is already the busiest part of town. One thing Letterkenny has a lot of, are pubs. One cannot talk about Ireland without talking about pubs. Pubs are part and parcel of Irish life. As you might expect, main street features most of the pubs here in Letterkenny.
Much has already been debated about Ireland’s romance with alcohol. Radio show would constantly talk about the need to rein in the Irish zeal of alcohol as it is causing a lot of social problems as well. When going out pubbing, it would be best to leave while it is still early as some drunks are known to cause trouble late at night and even in the wee hours of the morning. I have never been witness to such rowdy behavior but I have heard enough stories about people randomly getting bashed in the head by a beer bottle or how fights would break out in these locations. There is no denying the Irish pubs are a wonderful part of their culture. I would agree since there is a lot of charm to be had in a traditional Irish pub.
