Letterkenny isn’t a very big town by any means, since I have been to much larger cities than this one. Compared to the other towns in Ireland, this place counts as one of the bigger ones. I haven’t been to a lot of Ireland’s famed towns based on my limited experience of Irish towns. I can describe Letterkenny as sprawling since these towns tend to build horizontally rather than vertically. I guess they don’t want to ruin the beautiful Irish landscape. One thing I noticed about Irish towns is that they tend to look alike. The architecture tends to be the same and even the street names are the same. One name in particular stands out, Main Street.
As the name implies, Main Street is the main street of the town. It is one of the busiest streets here in Letterkenny as this is where all commerce happens. You can consider this street to be their shopping street in the mold of an Orchard Road but far less flashy. Letterkenny’s Main Street is said to be one of the longest in the country as well and I was already thinking it was too short for me. The shops here weren’t terribly interesting, I guess I still need to get used to the lifestyle here. Life is so much slower here and I guess it will take time for me. Big name shops are nowhere to be found here, only the local shops. The look of main street was okay, though I thought the main streets of the other Irish towns seem to be prettier.
