Inside the Codognon Cave Chamber

There was only one entrance to the Codognon Cave and it was small. However, it was still large enough for a fully grown person to crawl through but it was still small enough to give some people claustrophobia. Fortunately, I was still okay with that kind of size and I can easily crawl through it, I don’t think I’m that fat yet. One needs to be very careful not to knock their head against the roof of the entrance. Solid rock, as you can imagine, can be very hard. Yoru guide will be there to watch out for you though. Once inside, it will take some time for your eyes to adjust to the darkness, but your nose will adjust first. It stinks. Not surprisingly, this cave is inhabited by bats and it smells of bat droppings. There is small chamber here where the only light is coming from the entrance and another one from the left. It looks like there is yet another chamber here.

The chamber here is good enough to fit several families in here, let alone several tour groups. Fortunately, people can only go in one at a time so it can never be too crowded here. The other chamber is smaller but taller. There is more light here as there are holes in the roof of the chamber. This place is also archeologically significant as human remains were found here which date back to the Philippine Neolithic Age. More recently, this place served as shelter for the locals during the second world war. It is appalling how such and important archeological site is now turned into a tourist attraction. I am just here for research purposes.
