It was high noon at Snake Island and it was already very hot. It wasn’t even summer yet and it was already boiling hot here, but isn’t that why everyone goes to the beach? My mom always tells me to stay out of the sun especially during noon time. This is exactly what she meant. When on a sandbar there wont be any treez for shelter so we had to run all the way back to where the viewpoint was. When we got back to the island, we found out that out boatman had been very busy. They were preparing lunch for us! I knew that we will be having lunch as part of the tour but we didn’t know that it was to be done here in this area.
The lunch they prepared for us was a feast for the senses. I was already hungry and it was good that they prepared the food for us. It wasn’t restaurant quality food but it was simple local fare. There was, of course, seafood with a lot of boiled shrimp for us to dine on. There was also grilled fish here but I didn’t seem to have taken any photo of it. For people who do not want seafood, there is barbequed pork as well as stir fried vegetables. For desert there was fresh mango and yellow watermelon.
I was surprised by the quantity of the food that was prepared for us. There were only four guests here and it seems to be too much even for my large appetite. The shrimp was the best since it was fresh from the sea. The rest of the food was okay but nothing spectacular. I gorged on the shrimp until I can’t take anymore and there was still more left. We realized that our boatmen didn’t have lunch with us and we were begging them to eat with us. Naturally they were reluctant to eat with the guests since we paid for it but we insisted. The lunch was a great surprise for me and I think that alone was already worth half the tour fee. Our boatmen being the eco-friendly kind gathered up all of our leftovers and waste and brought every single thing back to the boat including the table, I didn’t even know they brought one. I think this is a very good gesture as it keeps the islands and the waters here clean.
