With the growth of El Nido as a tourist destination, costs of staying here have steadily increased. I haven’t been here in a while so I was surprised to see the prices these days. In some places, they have already doubled. However, the lower end ones have remained affordable. The taste is another thing though. I kept telling my friend that I was looking for a cheap but good place, and he wholeheartedly agrees. I normally have very modest tastes and I am very flexible when it comes to food. In this case, my friend doesn’t mind my tastes at all, as he is also on a budget.
He then brought me to this place which he says has Vietnamese stuff. Palawan is once the site of a rather Vietnamese refugee camp, though they didn’t really stay in El Nido, their cuisine has found its way into Palawan. In this case, the shops sells burgers and something called chaolong, which apparently is a Vietnamese dish. I was naturally intrigued. It is basically a noodle dish, or rather a noodle soup dish, with emphasis on the soup. It was sourish but way too little noodles. There was hard boiled egg though. Though it was tasty, it was not enough, as I felt I only had a drink.
