For those who do not know, the Philippines is composed mostly of water. Being the second largest archipelago around, 7107 islands all in all, a lot of people live near the sea. It is not surprising therefore that most of the people live off the sea, that is through fishing. Palawan is host one of the riches fishing grounds of the Philippines and it supplies majority of the fish sold in the big city of Manila. As for small fishing villages like Nacpan, it is doubtful, they have the capacity to export that much fish, rather, the people here are content to fish for themselves and then some more for visitors.
You can easily see how the fishing village of Nacpan is separated from the fenced out plots of land by the beach. Small huts on one side of the beach are bunched up together. I can imagine how some of these huts have former landowners who decided to sell their beachfront land to rich foreigners. There seems to be a land rush here in Palawan and everybody seems to be selling land. If I only had the money I would buy some but for now, I can only sit and watch as great beachfront property gets snapped up. As for the locals, they seem to be content to their way of life. It is also possible there is very little they could do about it as the government doesn’t seem to be helping.
