When my friend was suggesting places that we could go to, he rattled off a few names which I had never heard of. He has been staying here in El Nido for a good few months and has become familiar with the places nearby, but still he ends up finding places which are interesting, the the week prior to my arrival he went to another place and I could only look at the photos with envy. Maybe if I become rich I would stay here a few months and explore the area as well. For now, it is just a few places for me. Napcan Beach is an isolated beach more than an hour away from El Nido Town, that is by tricycle over a dirt road. Taking a van might be faster and more comfortable, in the meantime we were slumming it with the tricycle we hired for the day.
Upon entry into the village of Napcan you can immediately feel the isolation. There were no resorts here yet and indeed, there is no electricity in the area either. Most of the power here comes from private generators. The people who can’t afford generators have candles at night. Not that there was a lot to do here at night. Nacpan Beach itself is a beautiful stretch of unspoiled white sand. It stretches for a kilometer or two. It was hard to believe that you can still find this kind of place anywhere. As for visitors, there were a few hardy visitors here who came by their own motorcycles and we likewise enjoying the tranquility of a isolated and yet beautiful beach.
