I was very grateful to have a free place to stay here in El Nido. Gone are the days where I could have gotten a simple room by the beach for 500 pesos. Not that the place where I was staying is that much better, it was a decent place but it is no hotel room either. I would take free anytime. The next day, my friend and I decided to go to another village here in El Nido. It was supposed to be very far and we would need to hire some transportation to get there. The main mode of transportation here in El Nido is the ubiquitous tricycle. My friend booked the previous night with one of his frequent drivers and he did come to fetch us the following day. His tricycle wasn’t exactly very large. The cab itself can barely fit two people, it was uncomfortable, but it beats walking.
The travel to the village wasn’t very smooth either as a few kilometers out of El Nido town, they seemed to have ran out of cement and it was a dirt road from there on. This probably explains the presence of numerous vans ferrying passengers out of El Nido. If guess if there are more of you, it is more worth it and far more comfortable to hire a van instead of a tricycle, then again a tricycle can give you a very local and adventurous feel to your trip. Our ride out of El Nido took us to a remote part of Palawan where little development is going on, but that may change soon enough.
