Simple Dinner at El Nido

Fish Being Prepared for Grilling at El Nido

I arrived in El Nido town in Palawan past six. Just about right, though I was hoping we would get there around five. I was judging from the time were arrived in Taytay but the road from Taytay to El Nido was horrible and our progress slowed to a crawl. I had a friend who was in El Nido town for that period, so I was lucky enough to have a place to stay for free. The place was just one where some locals let out one of their rooms to visitors. My friend has been there for a few months so he was on a long term lease. The family was very friendly and didn’t mind having a stranger in the house. I guess they are already used to this. This is also extra income for them at least they get to share in the growing popularity of El Nido.

After resting for a while, we head out of the house and into town. The town of El Nido isn’t very large. The house where I was staying in was close to the restaurant area of El Nido so it was quite convenient. Since my friend was staying there he preferred not to spend a lot of money on food, which suits me just fine. He brought me to this local eatery which he supposedly frequents. This place is probably known for its grilled seafood, as you can see from the large grills outside the store. There were a lot of tourists there as well, probably owing to the cheap food they have on offer.

Grilled Chicken of All Things

Grilled Chicken of All Things

As you might expect from a seaside town, most of the food here is seafood and it is grilled. Grilled fish, grilled squid, grilled another kind of fish. I don’t particularly fancy grilled food since it tends to turn black and as you know this isn’t exactly very healthy. I had a grilled chicken leg and it was 50% black, I quickly lost appetite but I finished it anyway. You probably shouldn’t eat the skin and most of it is already burnt, which is natural since it is grilled. This is probably just my personal opinion since the crowds come here in droves. It wasn’t particularly delicious anyway, probably just that it was cheap.
