I had a surprisingly enjoyable time at the San Jose Public Market. There were all sorts of seafood being sold there, little wonder since Palawan is a large provider for seafood for Manila. If you consider that the Philippines is an archipelago where there are seas all around, this only shows how bountiful the waters of Palawan are. I have less than an hour to go before my bus leaves, so I decided to have a quick lunch here. There are a couple of eateries here in the bus terminal. All of them are the low end ones where they have several pots on display and you peek inside to see what they have. This is a very common way of doing an eatery and it is even practiced in shopping malls.
I went for the most decent looking one and just ordered whatever caught my fancy. Bitter gourd with egg and some squid. I ordered squid specifically because I thought it was local produce. The dish didn’t really look very appetizing since the sauce was all black, which is normal since squid has black ink. The squid itself wasn’t that bad either and it was actually sweet, hopefully a sign of its freshness. I spent the rest of the time just watching out for my bus, it is just a stone’s throw away from the parking bay so I was sure I won’t miss it. My fears of unclean food were unfounded as nothing happened to me after eating the food.
